I squint, shutting my left eye as though it might sharpen the world into focus. The Rotterdam sun burns too bright today, its rays slicing the sky like blades of glass. For a moment, I surrender, eyes closed, then opened again, rebooting my vision as though I were some half-malfunctioning machine.
The device aligns itself with a soft hum, settling into the exact coordinates we’ve all been staring at. Around me, others stand in silence, each of us tethered to the same point in space. I wonder if thought could leak between us, would we hear one another? Would we speak without sound, sharing the strange flickers of fear, wonder, and doubt that now spark alone in our skulls?
I almost feel it: a phantom current, a shimmer of voices, like static before the transmission begins.
